As adults, we can sometimes take for granted how stressful this time of year can be for our kids. After a long, laid back summer, returning to a more structured schedule, homework, meeting expectations, P.E., fickle friends, etc.; it can all be quite stressful!
There are a handful of easy things you can do to help your children learn to handle their stress levels, which will make their school days more productive, successful and enjoyable. -Start adjusting their bedtime now, so that when school rolls around they are already back on schedule. -Plan healthy snacks and meals to properly feed their bodies. -Teach them belly breathing to relax their minds. Simply soften the belly muscles and allow the belly to extend outward with the inhalation and contract in slightly with the exhalation. A few deep belly breaths are the perfect way to reel in stress right before a test or presentation. -Let them unwind in the evening with a cup of chamomile tea. Regularly drinking chamomile has a tonic effect on your nervous system, helping the body deal with stress. If warm tea isn’t up their alley, you can ice it add a splash of orange juice to zest it up a bit. -And of course, send them to school with a light breakfast for energy and a water bottle to stay hydrated. While these tips are great for the kids, they are also great for us adults too! Give them a try and enjoy the upcoming school days! Namaste~ Tracy
